American artist George Burroughs Torrey (1863 - 1942 New York). A large nude figure of a woman, possibly his wife, part-Hawaiian artist Lillie Hart Gay Torrey (1871-1956). This painting is oil on canvas, laid down on board. Signed lower left "George Burroughs Torrey" in dark red. The frame size is 56" high by 42 1/2" wide. Mr. Torrey is noted for his portraits of Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Wm. H. Taft and other notables of his time. *In Hawaii he painted Benjamin F. Dillingham and several governors of the Territory of Hawaii.
